In the suburb of Dover Heights in Sydney, a property in Aboukri Street was renovated, translating tradition to modernity under the auspices of Sam Crawford Architects (SCA), SQ Projects and renowned flooring and walling specialist, Honestone.

Hence, when home owner Debbie Atkins approached SCA to refurbish her stunning abode, SCA headhunted only the best in the business to play their part in the makeover, including Honestone and SQ Projects.
“Honestone was selected as the client wanted the look of a polished concrete floor in the kitchen, living and dining room areas of the house however the existing conditions prohibited the use of a traditional polished slab,” Ms Tudor said. “Honestone was selected for the thin profile of the product and concrete look.”
“The colour and aggregate mix were selected to bring a lightness to the living areas with an overtone of warm hues though the yellow and white aggregate.”
“The warm tones compliment the spotted gum timber veneer joinery and the yellow and grey accent paint colours throughout the room,” Ms Tudor confirmed.
SQ projects manager Matt Sidoti said in terms of the product, it was “on par”. He said despite some construction issues, the project was successful and Honestone’s work quality and workmanship on that polished concrete floor in Dover Heights was well above board. Mr Sidoti stated that the clients were extremely happy with the results.

“SCA approached Honestone for a solution to meet their client’s desire for a polished concrete floor in the renovation of their Dover Heights home,” he said.
“We liaised with Sam Crawford Architects (SCA) at the concept stage to present a solution to their client wanting a polished concrete floor in the kitchen, dining and pantry area. The problem being any topping had to be a minimal thickness due to adjacent existing floor heights. Initially exploring our polished cement toppings in various shades of grey with no aggregates, and after several rounds of sampling, the clients instead opted for our thin set polished concrete topping with natural stone aggregates.”
“Working closely with Imogene Tudor at SCA, an off-white Chardonnay cement with a custom blend of white marble from the Barossa in South Australia and river pebble aggregates was chosen as the final floor finish.”
“Absolutely stunning”
Most important is the insight from homeowner Mrs Atkins on the work done on that polished concrete floor in Dover Heights. “The whole space is absolutely stunning,” she said. “The workmanship is flawless, it looks great and is functional for us. I could not be happier. Honestone was exceptionally professional and Rick and team were great, polite and worked very hard on our house – thank you.”
